Imagine With Us
My work consists of dreamlike composite photographs that explore the imaginative worlds of two young boys as their ideas take visual form. While I appreciate portrait photography, I am particularly drawn to surrealism and photomontage for their ability to convey symbolic meaning and evoke curiosity, wonder, and emotion through visual storytelling.
Play serves as the foundation of this series. Each image emerges from intentional moments of collaboration with my sons, where conversations, drawings, and open-ended questions become pathways into their imaginative realms. As they share dreams, stories and ideas, I translate their visions into photographic narratives. Although I strive to preserve the authenticity of their perspectives, occasional guidance is necessary to help shape a cohesive visual narrative. At the same time, unexpected moments often arise, allowing imagination to unfold in surprising ways.
Once an idea takes shape, I carefully select and photograph the backgrounds, subjects, and objects needed to construct the final image. While my sons frequently appear in the photographs, my niece occasionally participates as a model. These photographs become the raw material for a process of digital compositing in which multiple images are layered, manipulated, and seamlessly blended into a single scene. While the creation of each image can take several days, the series was completed over the course of six months.
More than a photographic project, this series is a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and play. By transforming my children’s imaginations into extraordinary visual narratives, I seek to preserve the wonder of childhood while inviting viewers to reconnect with their own imaginative capacities and consider play as a meaningful and transformative form of expression. Inspired by experiences that cannot be seen directly, my work investigates the ways imagination, dreams and memories become visible through surreal photographic imagery. Through photomontage, I transform ordinary objects into symbolic elements that evoke the wonder of childhood imagination.
